Children's Theatre of Charlotte

Children's Theatre of Charlotte"There is not an organization in the city of Charlotte that has more positively impacted my child's life than Children's Theatre," explains a parent of her son's experiences. "I am enormously appreciative that there is a place where he feels so confident. As a mother, it gives me so much comfort to know that Children's Theatre is there for my child and our family."

Children's Theatre of CharlotteChildren's Theatre of Charlotte was founded sixty-one years ago with a belief in the power of theatre, that arts are central to learning and that they delight, enlighten, and enchant. These beliefs are woven into their wide array of programs serving more than 321,000 young people and families every year. Education programs at Children's Theatre inspire creativity, confidence and a sense of community. Professional teaching artists lead students through engaging, interactive sessions. Students seeking intensive theatre instruction may participate in a yearlong School of Theatre Training Program, culminating in the renowned "kids-for-kids" performance experience.

"Two years ago Children's Theatre opened their wonderful new building called ImaginOn," says David Wood, National Children's Dramatist of England. "It combines a children's theatre with a fabulous children's library. It's an amazing facility...a model that should be admired, envied and hopefully imitated worldwide." In ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center, school groups and public audiences find a perfect venue for professional theatre productions - from intimate storytelling to Broadway scale theatre.

Children's Theatre of CharlotteChildren's Theatre also reaches out to all members of the community. They provide more than $100,000 in ticket, class and camp scholarships each year. Their Community Involvement Program touches local populations traditionally underserved by cultural organizations by taking no-cost programming to community centers, shelters and libraries. And their professional touring company, The Tarradiddle Players, travels the southeast to deliver theatre performances to students who would otherwise have no opportunity to experience the magic and wonder of live theatre.

"What gifts you have given our child, in and outside the world of theatre!" remarks another parent. Children's Theatre is truly unique venue for young people to exercise their imaginations and grow in wonderful and sometimes-unexpected ways.
